I have endeavoured to state as clearly as possible the principal incidents connected with this sad tragedy. I regret to say that up to the present no trace of the miscreants has been discovered, but it is said that some among them could be recognised if seen again, and that the chief pirate and certain others of their number bear strong resemblance to the photographs of some well known criminals who have been imprisoned here.
I have the honour to be, My Lord, Your Lordship's Most Obedient Humble Servant, I. Fanning
P.S. Since writing the above Vice-Admiral Sir Nowell Salmon has arrived in port, and on the receipt of some further information regarding the possible movements of the pirates concerned in the attack.
